Hip-Hop Rumors: Trey Songz Beats Dude Up? B2K Part 2? Feds At Pimp C's ...

JAMES BROWN – A HIP-HOP DEDICATION.

I can't believe it has been a year since James Brown passed away. On December 22 history was made as Bootsy Collins hosted a James Brown Tribute Concert in Covington, KY. Bootsy lined up comic Michael Coylar, Chuck D, Afrika Bambaatta, Lil Boosie, James Browns most recent back up band the Soul General, the JB's, Mr. Browns MC Danny Ray, The Funky Drummers, Phunkbase, and Buckethead. The venue was very small and cramped, and the scene was not hollywood at all. Jeremy told me that Bootsy is from Cincinnati and held the event in town because King Records, where Mr. Brown recorded most of his music was in Cincinnati. Shout out to all that went.

Suddenly, I want to be older…being young isn't so cool to me right now.

Search Marketers' Wish Lists

What's at the top of your wish list from the search engines this year? What are the most egregious problems they need to address? What would be the most helpful product/feature/service they could offer to help you?

Amanda Watlington, owner of Searching for Profit

Transparency. It is pitiful that they are so distrusting of us as an industry that they send their staff to conferences without even business cards. I am always stunned when search engine types admit that they don't have a card – who are they kidding?

What are the most egregious problems they need to address? Clean up the spam. There is still a huge volume of spam ranking highly for any given competitive keyword.

Andrew Goodman, principal at Page Zero Media

It would be most helpful if a major search engine would become more deeply involved in contributing functionality to the open source community, so that site search powered by SOLR-family code would be easier to customize for the open source development community.

Bears sign Rex Grossman for 1 year

A one-year deal for a starting quarterback in the NFL doesn't say I love you.

A one-year deal says we're dating, but we're not committed. It says it's almost closing time, and neither one of us wants to go home alone.

More than anything, the Bears agreeing with Rex Grossman on a one-year, stopgap contract Saturday said the team might consider itself closer to rebuilding than either general manager Jerry Angelo or coach Lovie Smith wanted to admit at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

NT coroner finds Bob Collins committed suicide

FORMER Labor senator and accused pedophile Bob Collins took his own life using a combination of prescription drugs and alcohol, the Northern Territory coroner has found.

Mr Collins died in Darwin last September at the age of 61, three days before he was due to face court on child sex abuse charges dating back 30 years.

The charges included possessing child pornography, indecent assault, carnal knowledge and sexual intercourse without consent.

His death followed a long battle with bowel cancer, which had delayed legal proceedings against him.

In a statement issued today, Northern Territory Coroner Greg Cavanagh said the former senator had taken his own life.

"The cause of death was intentional overdose of prescription drugs with alcohol following upon a background of three years of significant medical difficulties and in the face of upcoming court cases,'' he said.

Let the talks begin

During his stay in Nicosia, Gambari is scheduled to see also Opposition Disy leader Nicos Anastassiades, House president Demetris Christofias and on the Turkish side, Huseyin Ozurgun, leader of the UBP .

Gambari has already visited Ankara and Athens and will be reporting on his mission to the Secretary-General.

Mat Bryza

The fact Mat Bryza of the US State Department is also planning a trip to the region, next week, shows the determination of the UN and the US to push for a resumption of the Cyprus peace talks at this juncture.

The European Union is due to review Turkeys accession process in October, and the Americans are keen to ensure that Cyprus does not pose an obstacle, even though Ankaras uncompromising attitude on the ports issue could probably create a crisis.

After leap breaks body, a miracle renews spirit

On the evening of Sept. 28, at an apartment complex in King of Prussia, a tragedy and a miracle occurred 2.5 seconds apart.

The tragedy took place when Jordan Burnham, 18, a senior just nominated to the homecoming court at Upper Merion High School, jumped out his ninth-floor window.

The miracle happened 90 feet below, when he hit the ground at 50 m.p.h. - and survived.

Jordan has no recollection of going out the window. Even though he was suffering from depression, neither he nor anyone close to him ever expected him to do something so impulsive, so lethal.

"I had everything to live for," he says now.

Today, 114 days later, Jordan's body remains badly broken. With the help of three therapists, he stood on his right leg last week for 60 seconds.

Minis to the Max at NY Fashion Week

Outside Miller's traditional comfort zone of cute cocktail dresses were a black, zip-front catsuit and draped silk dresses in chain-mail or fleur-de-lis prints.

LACOSTE

Lacoste's golf- and tennis-enthusiast fans will have new options for the slopes.

The French brand made its case on a gigantic bear rug Saturday, opening with cozy jumpsuits in sweatshirt material for women and chunky turtleneck sweaters for men.

Next came some more fashion-forward looks _ shorts with tights, and flat-weave sweaters with geometric patterns.

There were plenty of menswear influences in the women's styles, including skinny ties and traditional blazers with country club-style emblems. There also were gray flannel pants in every possible silhouette _ gaucho pants, wide-leg palazzo pants, slim trousers and capris.

Tell Me About It: She doesn't have to pay forever for error

Dear Carolyn: Guy and Girl date for a year and a half, live together for a year. Girl screws up, loses Boy's trust, Girl moves out, but Boy and Girl still date, albeit in an "open relationship," much to Girl's dismay. Girl knows she did wrong and tries to go with the "open relationship" because she wants to be with Boy, but is finding the "open" part hard to deal with. How does Girl comes to terms with the situation, and enjoy the "open relationship"?

-- D.C.

Dear D.C.: Girl realizes that no matter how serious her screw-up, she isn't going to fix it by debasing herself.

If you can't abide the new terms, then decline to live by them. Tell him you love him, want him, regret hurting him, and will be happy to see him, when and if he stops taking sadistic pleasure in exacting revenge for his pain.

Prep Zone

Who do we believe? I also hear good things about Buford's Dallas Lee at this position. Is Lee be better than Jones? Or even Omar Hunter?

• LB/RB Jonathan Davis, Tucker — I like guys who are stars on both sides of the ball. Davis, Smith (above) and Greg Reid (below) are perhaps the state's best at that.

• LB Jarvis Jones, Carver-Columbus — Might be another Super 11 lock. He's highly regarded by recruitniks but also the top defender on a state championship team. He's a big dude, too — 6-3, 205.

• LB Joel Kight, M.L. King — The Class AAAAA defensive player of the year as a junior. He sheds blocks and gets to the ball-carrier quicker than any linebacker I saw last season. Recruiting services seem to like Peachtree Ridge's Kevin Minter ahead of Kight, Carver's Jones and Tucker's Davis.

MARSA PLAGE STATION (TUNISIA)

Just as the sun reaches its zenith, a train slides into a platform at Marsa Plage Station in Tunisia. Without waiting for it to come to a complete stop, a wave of young people surges from the carriages.

Wearing T-shirts over their bathing suits and carrying parasols tucked under arms, they scamper down the hill to a beach on the Mediterranean Sea.

People in Tunis do not have to check the weather forecast in summer as every day is sunny. With schools closed until the middle of September for the summer holidays and government offices and companies closing at 1 p.m, people spend the long, hot summer on the beach.

The town of La Marsa is known as an upscale residential area, and the railway line serving it — the TGM — is the oldest suburban rail line in Tunisia.

The state's appeal of a recent court decision that pleased casino supporters will not drag out.

The state Supreme Court guaranteed a quickened pace by ordering an expedited schedule for legal arguments to be submitted. That increases chances the state high court will rule on the appeal before a key date — Sept. 15.

That is the deadline for Secretary of State John Gale to certify issues and candidates for the November general-election ballot. A Supreme Court decision before Sept. 15 would give Gale clear direction on whether to certify the three-casino initiative for placement on the ballot.

Petitions are now being verified to determine if there are enough valid signatures.

If a decision on the appeal is not made before Sept. 15, Gale would be faced with a difficult decision: Place the issue on the ballot based on the court decision last week, or keep it off because that decision is still on appeal.
