Each volunteer will be issued an extra-large butterfly net. The hunt will then begin. When I blow my whistle, we will scatter in every direction and catch as many chinks as possible. Make sure to pay special attention to the Rec Center, the UMC, the math and engineering buildings and Lollicup. If you're not sure if someone is a chink, give them a calculus problem to do in their head. If they get it right, net 'em. Captured chinks will be dragged to my apartment on the Hill and hog-tied. Once they're all secured in my living room, "Phase 2" will come into effect. The chinks' reformation will begin with a 100-round beer pong tournament. They will listen to "It's a Small World" on repeat while they play. When the tournament is finished, the chinks will then be forced to eat bad sushi from Hapa-with forks.
What to Watch: Fast Haulin' and B-Ballin'
Thinking back, oh, let's say about 30 years ago to 1978, both the NBA and NASCAR were entering their modern era with events and personalities that stretched fandom of those sports to new levels. Both sports shared a common problem. Live TV broadcasts. NASCAR events were an ABC "Wide World of Sports" staple but shown on tape-delay. CBS had the NBA rights but small-market teams and tape-delayed playoff games — sometimes shown after midnight here in San Antonio — generated disastrously low ratings. Fast-forward to 2008 — the NBA has games on national TV seven days a week, its own TV channel and billion-dollar price tags for tradition & digital broadcast rights. NASCAR's fortunes ballooned into the billion-dollar stratosphere after its landmark 2001 TV deal to become the second-most watched sports on TV.

I support the concept of having any industry that can come into Middleboro and be a good neighbor. If the results bring a financial benefit, even better." We drop the sails. We have everything tied down just as the rain shifts from drops to downpour. At least when I was skint, Caroline Flint wasn't around to shatter my ...
Like many a hack, every so often I get a missive from a bright young thing asking for advice on how to become, well, me. All very flattering until the questions start - best journalism course to take; college to attend; career path to weave. At which point, the whole thing becomes disconcerting on several different levels: first, these clever, ambitious charmers are clearly after my job (Anne Baxter in All About Eve, via email). Second, and most crucially, I have no gems of wisdom to impart about journalism courses, internships and the rest, because I never got to do any of that. Indeed, my overriding thought as I hamfistedly attempt to reply ('Avoid everything I did') is a slightly sad one. How would the person I used to be (young, up for it, but also penniless, clueless, without a middle-class safety net) get on in 2008? In these changing times, what are the breaks for people like me? The answer is, one suspects, not many.

Moving forward: Area churches help newfound singles overcome divorce
Depression. Loneliness. Anger. Those are three of the emotional and spiritual struggles DivorceCare groups that meet at local churches are designed to help people overcome. The groups also help men and women deal with challenges such as raising children and handling finances as someone who is single again. Sid Norton is facilitator of the DivorceCare group at Trinity Worship Center in Burlington. He described the group as a "safe place" for someone going through separation or divorce. People sign an agreement that there will be no dating among group members while they are in the program, which leaves room for friendships and supportive relationships. Sometimes group members will go for coffee or dinner after a session. Group members learn how to deal productively with their problems.
