Prep basketball: Salisbury 57, Monroe 48
MONROE Salisbury's coaches, more so than the players, understand the significance of a second-round win. Brandon Abel had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hornets to a 57-48 road victory against Monroe, the Rocky River Conference's top seed, in a 2A boys sectional semifinal Thursday night. Abel scored 12 second-half points and Ibn Ali posted seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter as Salisbury secured back-to-back playoff wins for the first time since 1994. Assistant coach Marvin Dixon was the second-leading scorer on that Salisbury team, which fell in a sectional final. Head coach Jason Causby was a West Rowan reserve that same season, and the Falcons prevailed in a sectional final before losing in a regional semifinal. "That's dating it there," Causby said.
Save the Planet by Surfing the Web, 'Green' Websites Promise
On the internet, anyone can be an environmentalist. All you have to do, is, well, nothing. A number of "green" internet businesses promise users they can help save the planet by doing little more than surfing the right websites. For instance, Blackle.com claims to help you save energy by offering a version of Google that has a black background, which may cut down on your display's electricity consumption. There are green search engines, green shopping sites, and even green dating sites -- it's an impressive abundance of good intentions. .
Dozier lawyer hopes troubles will go away
His current girlfriend, Andrea Brown, filed a petition for a protective order this week, alleging that Woods threatened her in the club that night and later came to her apartment, where she continued the threats and warned, "I'll be back." She also threatened Dozier and kicked his car, Brown said in her petition, which was granted. Protective orders are issued by the court to prevent harm pending further hearings. They may include banning abuse or threats, any communication, contact or stalking. Woods, 21, is a dancer at The Gold Club at White Station and Summer, according to court records. Brown, also 21, works for Memphis City Schools, records show. Attorney Leslie Ballin, who represents Dozier, said he plans to meet with the women or their attorneys to see if some peaceful resolution can be reached out of court.
Villaraigosa's Dead-End Pico and Olympic One-Way Plan ...
Then on February 5, when Villaraigosa presented his three-phase plan, he ran into a buzz saw of City Council fiefdom politics. He wanted to ban street parking on Pico and Olympic during peak traffic hours starting March 8, and by April he wanted to synchronize traffic lights on Pico and Olympic to favor east-west travel. (Phase three — after a promised careful evaluation of the first two phases — was supposed to include actual restriping of lanes and the addition of more westbound lanes on Olympic and more eastbound ones on Pico.) But City Councilman Herb Wesson of District 10 wanted to carve his district out of the venture, just as Rosendahl did. Both were fighting to save the existing parking in the curbside lanes of the two boulevards, where shoppers use blocks and blocks of city-laid street asphalt for local parking.

Under a plea agreement entered into court record on Nov. 30, prosecutors agreed to dismiss an indictment charging Deegan with first-degree murder and false statements.Federal sentencing guidelines call for Deegan to receive a sentence of between eight years and one month and 10 years and one month in prison for the crime. There is no parole in the federal system, but the sentence could include up to five years of supervised probation following her release.Hovland explained that 90 percent of sentences handed down by federal judges in the United States fall within sentencing guidelines.

SNP government budget passed
The SNP's budget was tonight passed after it won the backing of MSPs at Holyrood. The nationalist administration's first budget was voted through by 64 votes to one against with 60 abstentions after the Nationalists won the support of the Tories and independent Margo MacDonald. The result removes the prospect of a snap election with First Minister Alex Salmond having previously threatened to quit and go to the country if it was not passed. .
Meet the Student Council candidates for 2008
I have personal relationships with Liz Derickson and Dean Westphal because I've taken the time to ask them about CAPS and Public Safety's policies. Besides, I've seen the rubber duckies lounging poolside in President Bloom's basement spa! I don't need to remind you that we Swatties do a lot of thinking. As Vice President, I'd like to translate some of those thoughts into action. The other day, my friend was saying how great it would be if there were just some randomly fun things – "Like what if there were suddenly a band playing in the fragrance garden on Friday afternoon?" – that happened here on campus? The administration has actually been thinking of doing something like this for a while, but I want to make sure it happens. The Vice President, along with the rest of Student Council, functions as a voice for the student body, and at this point the administration wants to listen.
